Welcome to Preying Lizard Music's Newsletter for the week of September 10, 2006

Hello again my friends and I hope this finds you doing well! Most of you might have noticed that the Shows were not updated this past week and that's because of a road trip I took to Houston over the course of three days. It's a 1400 mile round trip and I actually just spent one full day in Houston. It was a great trip though and I had the pleasure to spend time with Dixie Lizard's drummer Michael Chase and his lady Valerie. We enjoyed each other's company and it was an awesome meeting of the minds in regards to our upcoming cd and the path we are on. For those of you on the mailing list from Houston who are my dear friends too please take no offense for my not contacting you. It was a trip I had to make and return immediately from so my time was spent driving and taking care of business for Dixie Lizard.

The drive was totally awesome. I spent my entire trip listening to cds from the Indie artists that I play on the shows. The closest thing to a major label band that entered my cd player was Monster Magnet and I wish they were a major label band because they deserve to be. So do all of the artists I played. The reality of it is that the major labels have died and no longer have much to offer artists except distribution and even that is not a necessity if you are signed to or run your own Indie label. Which means that Indie artists now can record, produce and release a song or cd to the entire world all by themselves. Climbing to the top of the heep is the problem though. With the abundance of music out there it seems nearly impossible to receive the recognition that bands and artists such as the ones played on my shows deserve. My goal is not to just promote Dixie Lizard but to promote all of the music that has become such a major part of my life. Each band and artist I play holds a special place in my heart as they have given me the right to share their music. That's a very awesome thing to me and I hope that my efforts continue to become noticed for the sake of these great Indie artists!!!

Also on the drive I became angry with the fact that our government has totally let down the people of the Gulf Coast. The rebuilding is slow and these people still are suffering. It's a crime to humanity as much of what the Bush administration has done is. Proud to be an American? Yes I am. Proud to be an American under Bush's rule? No I'm not. I'm ashame of what this government is doing and I am seeing people blindly let the man do whatever he wants without protest. Those who protest are considered traitors which is bizarre! My generation were the hippies and yippies. My generation is now in charge of this country. What a turnaround! From freedom fighters to freedom takers. From lovers to haters. From sharing to taking. It's just wrong. My puzzlement comes also from the youth of America. There are those who are very cool and speak their minds but I see more of them who go along with what they are given loving their mass consumption of what little remains of a once beautiful planet. As a young person the state of this country would have angered me. As an old person I find it embarrassing to say the least. To the young people who are writing songs and poetry and doing something to point out the madness in this world I embrace you and thank you! The majority of the songs I pick for my shows is about the world and the state it's in. These are indeed confusing times for me. If my views offend you I do apologize to you and would suggest you discontinuing your subscription. I know that perhaps this is not the place to put my views. But it is the Dixie Lizard newsletter as well as the Preying Lizard Music podcasts newsletter and to know my views is to help in understanding the songs I write and perform and the point of doing the podcasts as a whole.

One of the bands that stuck out in the hard rock genre on my trip was newcomers Razer. Their new cd "Falling In Line" is incredible and speaks of the things I talk about in the paragraph above. A band that catches my emotions in the soft rock genre is ODYC! Both of these bands are awesome and deserve the support of fans everywhere. (in my opinion every band and artist I play is great) These two bands struck a chord with me and I just wanted to share with you the enjoyment their music brings to me. I highly recommend you checking both of them out!

What's up this week?

Well this week the site gets a major overall! CD reviews are returning to the site and art from a master graphics artist

Richard Toelanie. You will be suprised at Richard's creativeness and I was totally blown away by his graphics. To be able to use them on Preying Lizard is just awesome. Combined with the graphics I personally do the site is going to be graphically very cool! All of the old cd reviews I removed from the site will return and I'll begin reviewing new cds from bands and artists. I don't take requests for reviews. My first new review will be the brand new Jerry Lee Lewis cd that hits stores this month on the 26th. I've been asked by his label who has sent me a promotional prerelease cd to do this and I gladly accepted the offer. As you know if you are listening they have also allowed me to play tracks from his cd and I totally appreciate that. The review should be on the site tomorrow afternoon at the latest and all of the bands that I reviewed in the past I will put back up. From that point on I will make a very strong effort to review 3-4 a week. Reviewing cds for me became quite a task in the past. Every time I review a cd I ONLY pick cds that I love. So there's just so many words to express that a cd is excellent. LOL. Redundancy follows. Hopefully this time I can do it without the overwhelming feeling that I've said that before.

If you are wondering about Richard's fantastic artwork here's a link to his site. His site is a mix of intense graphics and electronic music and is quite an experience so check it out! It's totally cool.

All shows are now back on schedule and will be for many weeks to come. Also expect a brand new song from Dixie Lizard called "Your Shadow" to debut on the Chill Pill Show this Friday. It will not be made available any where else including MySpace so that's the only place online you will find it.

DIXIE LIZARD ON KILL RADIO 9/11

Tomorrow we'll be featured on KillRadio.Org sometime between Noon and 2PM Pacific Time on the Hear Hear Show. It's a great show and I highly suggest all of you who are artists and bands to submit to them. They are strong supporters of Indie rock. Contact Marc with your submissions. He likes to get them via YouSendIt. Check out the website for his email address to submit to. If you do listen tomorrow I'd totally appreciate you writing the station with your support for Dixie Lizard if you dig the tune.

To Brag Or Not To Brag?

It was either last week or the week before that I referred to the newsletter as the Brag Rag. I was very much joking. Bragging rights are great but truly meaningless in the greater scheme of things. However when hard work pays off and great music reaches great heights then it's time to share that information with fans and those of you who are on the playlists. So here I go again to let you know the status of the shows.

This blows my mind:
Indie Rock Music for IPODS number one out of over 10 million!!! Why did that happen? I checked my hits and where they were coming from and many were coming from Google searches for music for Ipods. So I added that to several of the pages of Preying Lizard Music in the title of the pages. It worked!!!!

Hard Rock Podcasts Listed in the number one spot in the "podcast directory"! and taking number three and four out of over 24 million online!!! Not bad at all.

Indie Hard Rock Podcasts - Top four spots out of over 12 MILLION!!!! Hell yeah! Thanks!

Soft Rock Podcasts - Dominates the top ten out of over 2 million!!! Awesome.

Indie Soft Rock Podcasts - Dominates the top ten out of almost 700,000 results!!! Totally cool! Once again thank you to the fans and artists on the show!!!

Instrumental Rock Podcasts -Top 2 spots in almost 4 Million results!!! Freaking A!!! I won't bother with doing the "Indie" search.

Blues Rock Podcasts-Top 2 spots in over 5 MILLION results!!!! Once again I won't bother with the "indie" search.

Female Rock Podcasts - after only one week, one episode, the "No Mans Land" show goes number one out of 4 MILLION results!!!! FREAKING A!!!!!

I think that I could continue doing this with lots of variations and get the same results but I'm through with my bragging rights. LOL. I do this as I write my weekly newsletters so I'm sitting here blown away especially over how freakin' fast "No Man's Land" caught on. I'm thrilled for the ladies who made up the first playlist last week!!! You are the ones who are responsible for this happening. Thank you all for letting me share your fantastic music with the world.

As always thanks to all of you who are fans who listen to and subscribe to the shows and to the bands, labels and management for allowing me to play your awesome music. Achieving results like this is a combination of fan support, great tunes, and hours of marketing. Together we will be heard!!!

Have a great week and I'll be back next week...Lord willing and the creek don't rise....with a new newsletter. I'm going to start posting his newsletter on my blog space at Preying Lizard and at MySpace to help spread the word.

Take care,
America's Got CRAP!!!

 • Mood: Dazed and Confused
 • Music: Led Zeppelin

My God! What in the freak has Simon Cowell done to America? If the talent I watched on last nights show is what it takes to become a millionaire then I should be a billionaire and so should every band I play on my podcast shows. I'm referring to his new series on NBC which aired last night with ten of the top American performers strutting their crap over a neverending two hours of viewers HeLL!

First off why in the F$$K would he choose Regis Filbin as a host? Is Regis really that hip to the talent scene? If he has anything to do with what talent hits the stage then the answer is obvious. But I don't think Regis is to blame for this disaster...I put it all on Simon Cowell's back. Does he think a yodeling teenager and a group of cloggers are the best America has to offer? Holy shit, if I lived in Europe or Asia or wherever and I saw this show I'd be laughing my ass off. It's aweful. Nothing about it is anything called entertainment. It's as if the camermen take you inside an insane asylum to watch their amature night...excluding two acts..one being Corina Brouder, a chick who played harp and sang "Knocking on Heaven's Door"and the other being two brothers, the Millers, who made it through as the judges pick with a semi hot performance of a well known blues tune which I've forgotten already. The chick who played harp and sang did a gentle version of the Bob Dylan classic with a good feel and originality. But not to the judges. I think they are too lame to realize that it's not a Guns and Roses song!!! They were calling a chick with a harp a "Rock Chick", "Axel Rose's little sister". Come on...idiots! She wasn't trying to sound like Axel Rose....she can really sing and play the harp. But even she isn't a million dollar talent. The Millers are two brothers that did a decent job on the blues song and were put through by the judges but not before Piers jabbed the little boys heart and cooked him over a flaming pit of shit. He tells the kid to dump his older brother cause he's the star. What the F**K!!!???? The young boy who plays the blues harp started crying man. It was like one of the worst moments in television history. NBC needs to dump this cow now!

The judges...again what was Simon thinking? Brandy? Who T F is Brandy?! DAVID Hasselhoff?? Come on...are you kidding? Then some cat from Britain who tries to be Simon named Piers Morgan who just kind of comes out of nowhere. It's entertainment to watch the three of them struggle to hype us all with the talent on stage. "You really brought it up a step" they tell a little kid that yodels. Then the five cloggers come out and clog around. Afterwards their critique is that "they don't dress right and need to spiff it up with suits" or some shit like that. Cloggers? A million dollars? Come on. Is that really what America has to offer? Hell no. It's what Simon has to offer as his twisted and sick portrait of America. People are watching this show with their mouths hung open and their eyes in a state of shock I'm sure! Without a doubt this is the worst talent contest ever! Even the Gong Show presented more talent in a thirty minute episode then the entire two hours of sluggish shit I watched last night. AND the Gong Show was at least funny when it was bad. America's Got Talent is absolutely horrible and NBC knows it! Simon Cowell has somehow managed to take the money and run! If I was him I'd hide myself away because this bomb is about to blow...oh it's already blown! Simon, what the F were you thinking man? A guy that dresses his dogs up in costumes is "America's Talent"? Simon you've lost it dude. Next year I'm entering as the "skipper" and I'm going to skip around in circles for my one minute. Hell Brandy will tell me "that was great, sensual, I really felt your energy", David will say "Wow, I don't know what to think...but I'm putting you through to next week's show to see if there is more to your act than skipping in circles" and Piers will tell me that "I'm putting you through but next week I advise you to wear a suit because this is where the competition gets stiff". Yeah, it's stiff alright. Dead stiff.

Anyway...Simon you've prooved to the world that you have no clue as to what talent is. Dude all I can say is what the F were you thinking?

Later,
Les Lewellyn
